National Science Foundation would run the independent data hub.
Representative Anna Eshoo of California introduced the Creating Resources for Every American To Experiment with Artificial Intelligence Act of 2023, or CREATE AI Act, in the House that would establish the National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource (NAIRR). The bill is also sponsored by all the co-chairs and vice-chairs of the Congressional AI Caucus. A similar bill was introduced in the Senate by Senator Martin Heinrich of New Mexico.
NAIRR is proposed as an independent resource managed by the National Science Foundation that makes all research and information about artificial intelligence (AI) accessible to all U.S. researchers. NAIRR would also offer high-powered computational capabilities to AI researchers, considered necessary to conduct deeper research into AI.
“AI offers incredible possibilities for our country, but access to the high-powered computational tools needed to conduct AI research is limited to only a few large technology companies,” Congresswoman Eshoo stated.
“To maintain United States leadership over our adversaries in technology, including AI, we must unleash the full potential of American innovation,” stated Caucus Co-Chair Michael McCaul of Texas. “The legislation will open up resources to allow more great American minds to work together to develop smart, safe, and secure AI.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Representative Eshoo and her colleagues as they propose to set up the research resource for artificial intelligence.
- For wisdom for members of the House and Senate when they deliberate and vote on the AI legislation.
